Inviting Family to PFarms

How invitations work, what each role means, and who should have which one.

Date created: 2026-05-03

Pfotos is meant to be a shared family space, not a private vault for one person. Inviting your family is one of the most important things you can do.

How to invite someone

  1. Open your PFarm
  2. Tap Manage (or the settings icon, depending on where you are)
  3. Choose Invite member
  4. Enter their email address
  5. Pick the role you want them to have
  6. Send the invitation

Your family member will get an email with a link to join. They'll need to create their own Pfotos account if they don't already have one.

The four roles, explained simply

When you invite someone, you choose what they're allowed to do. Pfotos has four roles:

Visitor — Can see what's in the PFarm. Cannot add, edit, or invite anyone.

Use this for: distant relatives who'd love to see the family history but aren't going to add to it.

Hand — Can see everything AND add photos, memories, and people.

Use this for: family members who'll actively contribute. Your siblings, your kids, the cousin who's always taking photos at family events.

Manager — Can do everything a Hand can do, PLUS edit existing memories, manage PSilos and PHarvests, and invite new members.

Use this for: the family historian. The one person in every family who remembers everyone's birthday. The aunt who already has all the photos sorted into albums.

Admin — Full control. Can do anything in the PFarm, including changing other members' roles.

Use this for: yourself, your spouse, or whoever owns the PFarm with you.

Can I change someone's role later?

Yes. Admins can change any member's role at any time. If you invited your cousin as a Visitor and they ended up being more involved than you expected, promote them to a Hand. If you invited an Admin who turned out to be over their head, drop them to a Manager.

Can I remove someone from my PFarm?

Yes. Admins can remove members. Be a little thoughtful about this — removing someone means they lose access to everything in the PFarm. If they've contributed memories, those memories stay (Pfotos doesn't delete content), but they won't be able to see the PFarm anymore.

A note about families

Pfotos was built around the idea that family includes more than blood. Step-parents, in-laws, the family friend who's been at every Thanksgiving for 20 years — they all belong on the family farm. Invite who you want. There's no wrong answer.
